As a student and teacher of the sciences, with a dedication to research (bothersome, perhaps, to my friends and loved ones) and data, I seem to date and befriend an abnormal number of alternative health practitioners with a fondness for anecdotes. That is not, in any way to suggest that alternative health practices are not viable, in fact I strongly believe there are huge gaps in our scientific knowledge around such topics, but I can’t help but to maintain a high level of skepticism around it for myself. Regardless of my own reservations, I love these people in my life, the contrast they provide to my own thinking, and their own self description as witches. Here is a piece inspired by their proclivity for copper bowls and “cauldrons”, and my musings on what they do with them. Beneath the piece is a small knob, that when moved reveals a small creature of some sort being summoned from the vessel.
