On a downtown balcony one early summer evening, hunching under an awning intended for someone a good foot shorter, I couldn't help but be mesmerized the unabting downpour. This isn't anything new for me, much like a campfire I can get lost in thought for hours at a time just staring at the rhythmic patterns both make. Illuminated in a street light, the rain seemed to take on an even more magical appeal, as it existed only in the arc of the glow.
While In reality no child stood below, I couldn't help but to imagine my friends and myself standing as children waiting for the school bus, when the morning sun had yet to crest the northern mountains and illuminate the rain for all to see. As soon as I got home to my studio, I quicky set out to conjure the image I had in my head, and this is what came out. Personally, this is perhaps my favorite 8x11 shadowbox I have yet to create. Something about the simplicity and the illumination of the character sticks in my mind’s eye like no other.
